Whilst the kennel staff, wardens and myself have every admiration for Shak, what they have achieved with Scooby & Kai is just brilliant, its clear they are shining in your care.
However, Im very concerned with the comments in relation to dogs being pts, neither Scooby or Kai were under threat of destruction.....it was the pound that requested our help in finding these two dog rescue spaces. They saw past the behavioural issues they had presented and they recognized that these dogs had something in them
Yes there are times when dogs are pts, but very few I may add. Since the start of 2009, 8 dogs have been pts, 3 of those were OAPs and suffered with ill health, 1 was with owners consent after he had attacked her own dog and young children. The other 4 were pts for unpredictable aggressive behaviour. When pts is considered, there is consult with wardens, ourselves but final decision is with the vet. We all take pts very seriously and its certainly not done a whim. The finger of blame is always pointed at the pounds when dogs are pts, with the amount of strays being received at the pounds they sometimes have no other option. Its about time the blame was laid at the door of those directly responsible........THE OWNERS!
What is needed is more specialised rescues like Shak, general rescues are no good for dogs with aggression/behavioural issues. They just dont have the expertise or the time.
Sorry for side tracking this thread.
