Meg (Formerly Polly the Collie)

Polly the beautiful Border Collie cross came to us on Wednesday after a mad dash to our "feeder" shelter (ha ha) in Birmingham.

Polly has obviousley been badly beaten at some point, as she is very shy, and has resorted to using her teeth to protect herself. She is friendly and will come for attention and to go for walks etc, but at the moment we have to do everything on her terms.

She is a special case, that I'm sure can be turned around with time and trust. It's like having a little Scooby.

Photographs to follow soon.
ladykeli

thank you so much for helping the beautiful Polly.

Polly really is a stunning example of a collie!  I have a soft spot for this breed so really looking forward to working with her!

she is the most loving girl and i know with time she will be great as she is a typical colli and is not at all stupid lol

Glad Polly is now safe,  I enjoyed walking her at the pound but she found it a very scary place.  I'm sure she'll soon settle down and relax now she is receiving the 'shak' treatment!  Good luck with her!
hollysmom

Polly is beautiful, when I was there she was so scared and just kept poking her head thru the hatch staring at me and wouldn't come to the front of the kennel even though I had tasty treats, good luck Polly.

this syunning girl is a pleasure as long as she gets to choose what she can trust and what cant, in my experience it just takes time with these cases and patience.
tanja

I totally agree as at shak we have some cracking examples of what a little patience can do and i hope polly will follow in all the big guys footsteps!

Sneaked back over tonight when I was waiting for the latest two to arrive from Birmingham, and spent some time with Polly off leatentiod in the big run.

She is a wonderful girl, who is very responsive to calls, so she has obviously had some training in past. I was allowed to stroke her all along her back, and she does seem to enjoy attention when she wants it.

Sad to say though, getting her out this afternoon showed how much damage and abuse Polly has had to face, She sat perfectly to get her lead on, but when she stood up I noticed she had wet herself.

aaww poor little girl. its so maddening that someone has done this to her.
wrightk-9

this little girl has been thru the wars and her life has not been pleasant but enough of her past now she is in heaven with people that understand her and will work with her she is addictive tho it is hard to just walk past her with out giving her fuss.
isnt it steven. lol
ladykeli

yes  john i used to tickle her nose every morning as i walked past.

Polly is an amazing girl that is so affectionate on her terms. Before she went out with Bouncer this morning, she had a spell in the office giving cuddles and kisses, and is so playful. You can’t believe she has been mistreated so badly.

On her walk she was brilliant, just a bit wary of the big guy, but she has already won Gregg over. Looking at the picture below, I guess you could say she has won me over too.

wow what a difference this is what she needed and if i had the place and time i would love to tke her but i have neather at the moment may be one day i will have the chance to help others.

you have worked wonders thank you yet again

Two walks in two days with two different female handlers, both of which she had never met before. On top of the through in Johnnie, Gregg and Myself with Bouncer, Bobby and Kai.

Quite a weekend for you Meg, and you sailed through it. Well done.

I spent some time with Meg today - the first time I have walked her.  We just went out for a short walk, but found a quiet place to sit down and have some treats.  She seemed a little nervous at first, but soon relaxed and was almost sitting on my knee when she saw the bag of chicken!  When we got back to the farm, we sat for another 15 mins enjoying the peace and quiet (away from her noisy neighbour Otto)  I even got a kiss before she went back to her kennel.  She's a little angel!   Smile

Special mention for Meg who was an absolute angel when receiving her first vaccination last night. Remember this is the girl that was sentenced to death for biting after being handled on her back.
oscar153

Well done Meg, you have come a long way.

Another walk with Meg today, and she met a new dog - Sharon's GSD Blade.  They walked along quite happily together and Meg was really calm and relaxed - also liked Sharon's treats!

" Two of my friends from Birmingham came to the kennels today. It was great to see them, but I was too busy sniffing.

They kept saying how much I'd come on, and even called me a Daddys girl when I gave Stephen a kiss"

Yes, definitely a 'daddys girl' although she did keep giving her other man (Otto) the eye as well lol.  It was great to see how relaxed Meg is now.
oscar153

I cant believe the change in Meg, she is such a beautiful girl, she was only interested in Stephen though.
wyliecat88

Ha Ha I know Karen, Otto was so jealous lol.

She's just getting used to seeing me everyday thats all  Wink
